Metro services to remain unaffected as Jats call off protest in Delhi after talks with Haryana govt

Delhi
Metro services will largely remain unaffected on Monday as the planned Jat protests were called off on Sunday evening following talks with the Manohar Khattar-led Haryana government. “Our agitation and march towards Delhi has been called off,” said Yashpal Malik, the chairperson of the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS), PTI reported. Malik’s announcement came as Khattar held a press conference saying the Centre and state would soon begin the process of giving Jats reservation, the key demand of the community. Those protesting had planned to march to Delhi, which lead to tight security measures being put in place. The national capital was fortified on Sunday itself, with metro connectivity scheduled to be cut off beyond Delhi borders. Following the decision to c...

Adityanath will make UP Uttam Pradesh, says BJP

Uttar Pradesh
The choice of Adityanath as the next chief minister of Uttar Pradesh has drawn criticism from the opposition parties even as the BJP stood strongly behind its leader. The opposition parties hit out at Adityanath's image of Hindutva hardliner, with Congress leader Veerappa Moily calling his elevation as the "biggest assault" on secularism. "It is a big assault on secularism in the country. Maybe, the BJP or RSS would like to endorse their cause of Hinduism. India is not Hinduism. Hinduism is not India. "India is built above castes and religions and 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family) is the very foundation of our secular society. It is the biggest assault ever done on secularism," Moily said. The BJP leaders strongly defended Adityanath and said he will take the state...
Only BJP can bring stability to Goa, no MLA wanted to support Congress, said CM Manohar Parrikar

Only BJP can bring stability to Goa, no MLA wanted to support Congress, said CM Manohar Parrikar

Goa
After being sworn in as the Goa Chief Minister for a fourth term on Tuesday, Manohar Parrikar said that the BJP alone, not the Congress, could bring stability to the state and rubbished the Congress' charge that the BJP's coming to power was immoral. He now has to take the trust vote on Thursday (March 16) to prove he has the support of the majority to run the government. Speaking to India Today, Parrikar while conceding that the mandate given by the electorate was fractured went on to add in the same vein that the BJP had a higher percentage of votes. BJP won 13 seats as opposed to Congress' 17 in the 40-member Goa assembly, but managed to win over support from small regional parties to get to the required mark. COMING TO GOA A MATTER OF COMPULSION: PARRIKAR The BJP leader said that ...

With JDU-RJD on warpath post UP results, BJP says Nitish Kumar won’t complete his tenure as CM

Bihar
With JDU-RJD on warpath post UP verdict, BJP says Nitish Kumar won't complete his tenure as Bihar chief minister. With the ruling JDU-RJD alliance in Bihar on warpath post the Uttar Pradesh election verdict, the BJP has predicted that Nitish Kumar won't be able to complete his full term as chief minister. "The grand alliance is divided after the BJP's landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh and it looks impossible for Nitish Kumar to complete his term," said Sushil Modi, senior BJP leader. Interestingly, post the Uttar Pradesh election results, RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh has been going all out hitting out at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for reasoning opposition of demonetisation as the cause of defeat of Congress-Samajwadi party alliance. On Tuesday, Singh once again made a blisterin...

Saffron Holi: BJP is MODIfied with historic majority in UP, sweeps Uttarakhand

Uttar Pradesh
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vanquished all Opposition by clearly winning two and coming within striking distance in two more of the five state Assembly elections, the results of which were declared on Saturday. The victory will result in consolidation of power for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah. A reshuffle in the central government and in the party hierarchy is likely. Praising Modi, Shah said, “The only factor for the win is the performance of the Modi government. ... Even his political rivals will have to admit that he has emerged as the tallest leader in the country since Independence.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not make a public appearance, but tweeted: “Am overjoyed that BJP has received unprecedented support from all sections of society....
7 Reasons Why BJP Won An Unprecedented Mandate In Uttar Pradesh

7 Reasons Why BJP Won An Unprecedented Mandate In Uttar Pradesh

Opinion, Uttar Pradesh
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s unprecedented victory in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections has left everyone asking the same question – how did the party manage to register such a thumping majority? Here are eight reasons why the BJP won big in the state. 1. Modi’s Connect With The People Much of the credit for the BJP’s win in Uttar Pradesh goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The win is testament to the trust he enjoys among the people of the state. During the party’s aggressive campaigning, PM Modi did not forgo a single opportunity to lead from the front, even if that meant a prolonged stay in Varanasi. 2. Demonetization Effect A lot was said about demonetization and its effects on the common man. However, the way things have panned out, it appears that the majori...
Manipur cliffhanger: Advantage BJP despite Congress emerging as single largest party

Manipur cliffhanger: Advantage BJP despite Congress emerging as single largest party

Manipur
Despite coming out as the single largest party in Manipur, the odds are stacked heavily against the incumbent Congress in the state. With 28 seats, it is three short of the magic figure to get a simple majority. The BJP, which has been the biggest gainer (the party could not open its account in 2012 assembly polls) in these election has won 21. But what gives them a clear advantage is the fact that like-minded parties on whom it is depending for support to form its maiden government in Manipur have done well too. Another factor that could weigh in its favour is the fact that it is in power at the Centre. Regional Naga Peoples Front (NPF) which is a constituent of the North East Democratic Alliance or NEDA (the north-east offshoot of the NDA) has won 4 seats. Conrad Sagma's National Pe...
UP election results 2017: Move over exit polls, Artificial Intelligence gives Modi’s BJP 220 seats

UP election results 2017: Move over exit polls, Artificial Intelligence gives Modi’s BJP 220 seats

Uttar Pradesh
An internet data analysis says the BJP could get between 220-222 seats and about 35 per cent vote share in Uttar Pradesh. An artificial intelligence analysis of internet engagements across parties shows the Bharatiya Janata Party is far ahead in its online push and this could translate into 220-222 seats for the party in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, the results for which will be announced tomorrow. Perhaps for the first time in India's history, the country has a prime minister who responds rather readily to tweets, in fact he once presented a scarf to someone who praised it on Twitter and frequently shares stories of his travels on social media. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's love and belief in the power of technology is all too well known. The Bharatiya Janata Party was the fir...
